Officials from the Natural Disaster Preparedness Authority in Kunar say that last night’s earthquake has resulted in the death of around 812 people and injured 2800 more in the districts of Nurgal, Sawkay, Watapur, Manogi, and Chapa Dara. They add that the numbers of dead and injured are not final, and communication is still ongoing with residents in remote areas. According to the officials, rescue operations are also ongoing in these districts. As a result of the earthquake, several villages in Nurgal district have been buried under soil, and it is estimated that hundreds more may still be trapped. Residents of these areas are calling on people to come to their aid and help in retrieving the injured and deceased. Rescue teams from the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Public Health have arrived in the region, and the injured are being airlifted to Nangarhar Regional Hospital.
